Conference, Meetings and Events Strategy Group

The BTA's Conference and Events Strategy Group is the latest addition to the BTA strategy groups. Formed due to the growing revenue contribution and opportunity that the MICE sector presents to TMC's, the group will become the owners of industry engagement, standards, professionalism and sustainability of the sector on behalf of all members. Focusing on the unique requirements of the MICE market as part of the business travel industry, the group will debate, shape and influence the opportunities to grow incremental revenue and deliver world class conferences and events. 

Objectives 
  • Engage with industry partners and the wider MICE supply chain to ensure the TMC sector receives the same support, product and content offering as the bespoke industry sector
  • Present a united front on issues impacting the industry from commission payments to contracting in overseas markets and promote the BTA endorsed, HBAA Code of Practice
  • Develop new partnerships for BTA and members specific to the MICE sector as an associate programme
  • Bring expertise to BTA bespoke meetings and events from association partners and the wider MICE industry to develop the strategy group and bring value to all members.
Typically, participants in this strategy group are Senior Conference and Events Managers, Supplier Relations and Senior Operations Managers drawn from across the BTA Membership. This group gives you the opportunity to develop your MICE  revenue streams and broaden your understanding of the industry.

Trevor Elswood | Capita Travel and Events

Trevor has over 25 years of experience in the sector. In 2000, he joined hotel and meetings specialist, BSI, managing customer and supplier relationships before being appointed managing director. When Capita acquired BSI, Trevor helped integrate the industry's leading specialists into a single, expert travel and events brand, Capita Travel and Events.

Joining the BTA Executive Board in 2017, and the ITM (Institute of Travel and Meetings) board in 2011, his aim is to bring my passion for the industry, broad experience, knowledge and pragmatism, to fellow association members.
