At IHG® (InterContinental Hotels Group), our global scale means we can make a real difference in our local communities and the environment around us.

We’re always looking at ways to do things differently and implement sustainable innovations and solutions to reduce our environmental impact. The IHG Green Engage™ system is our group-wide online sustainability platform that provides IHG-branded hotels with more than 200 Green Solutions. It supports our hotels to manage and report their use of energy, carbon, waste and waste, and minimise their environmental impact and their utility costs.

A strong track record for sustainability is an important factor for our guests, partners and customers. Increasingly, travel buyers are requesting information about the environmental impact of our hotels when making a booking decision. In fact in 2018, almost 60% of our business accounts requested such information through the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), and in addition IHG Green Engage system automatically reports environmental performance on our hotels to clients that request it.

IHG® Rewards Club members staying in our hotels for more than one night can elect to participate in IHG’s ‘A Greener Stay’ programme, opting out of certain housekeeping services in return for loyalty points, helping them make more conscious decisions when travelling. In October 2018, we announced the removal of single-use plastic straws from our hotels and most recently, we have announced it will transition its tiny bathroom toiletries to larger-size amenities across its entire global estate of 856,000 guest rooms in more than 100 countries, significantly reducing plastic waste.
